After two rainy weeks the sun finally crawls out and so do Ken and Kaarna. Or what’s left of them.
- This weekend every doll visits the miniature fair ”Ihmeellinen pieni maailma”, except us. I wish we could be there too, Ken sighs.
- You can watch it all on Instagram, since they all will post tons of similar photos. JussuSussu even promised to send a video of her performance.
Ken relly enjoys scrolling through the photos and videos from the fair. Looks like all his friends are having a wonderful time this year also! JuhaSusanna’s performance at Club Ibiza was a success! And another interesting thing is a copy of the church of Tuira! Ken hopes it will be there next year also. It was Ken’s local church back when he was a young adult and lived in Oulu.
Ken and Kaarna's original plan was to publish a friendship book at the fair. First everyone could learn bookbinding at the booth and then ask all their friends to answer the questions on the pages.
- Could you write in my book now, Ken asks Kaarna.
- Stupid stinking questions, Kaarna mumbles while filling up her page.
One day Kaarna drags in heavy shopping bags and before Ken says anything she starts to defend herself:
- I know I shouldn’t waste our money on crap, but these were cheap and I need something nice to survive this darkness.
- Halloween stuff… oh Kaarna. We can hardly feed ourselves.
- We’ll get money from the next year’s calendars! They are almost ready and you can start advertising them!
Eventually the severly depressed Kaarna manages to force herself outside to hang the pumpkin lights on the handrail of the stairs.
Her hands are freezing but going back inside to find mittens would be too much of an effort.
Ken leaves Kaarna with her skeletons and walks to the nearby stables.
Ritva has bought a pony and she hopes Ken would come watch her riding lesson.
Ken has never been interested in horses, but naturally he wants to encourage his niece. Although the huge horses make Ken a little worried about Ritva's safety.
Ritva's pony turns out the be the tiniest thing ever. What a relief, Ken thinks.
Ritva is not yet very comfortable sitting on the back of the pony, but she explains:
- An animal, physical exercise and fresh air. I'm trying to find a hobby that is the opposite of my work. To create a balance, you know!
Ken stays for the whole hour watching Ritva and the pony, and the coldness crawls inside his bones. But what wouldn't he do for that child.
After the riding lesson, he asks her to join him for hot chocolate.
Ritva also wants to see Kaarna's Halloween decoration, but it's not especially breathtaking.
When they come in, they find Kaarna in the kitchen with her skeletons.
She says:
- Minime said something about these skeletons being horrified of the World we live in and that gave me an idea...
- Skeletons have to stay in the closet today. The humans need this table now, Ken says and puts the scared little guys away.
Kaarna drags out a cardboard image of our finance minister and prime minister.
Only looking at their smug faces makes her so angry that she starts to tremble.
- These too are fucking horrendous creatures, and they have ruined the lives of so many people. Yes, the skeletons are terrified. The spiders are running away. Even death can't be scarier than these bastards.
- Why do we just suffer and let them take away everything that we have? Homes, jobs, social benefits, health care... We Finnish people are pathetic, for not starting a riot. We just wait until they make us starve to death.
