Ken has just turned 50 years old and he still can't believe it. He lives in a village of Melukylä, which is situated in Imatra, South Carelia, Finland. When he was a young man he dated Barbie. After that he had a long and happy relationship with Hector, but they tragically split after a short marriage. After that he dated Blaine for a while and lived in Spain with him. Now Ken is single and he likes it that way. His professional career is pretty much non existent, but he tries to make a living with sewing. He loves his home, but enjoys traveling a lot. Especially he likes the vanlife and his little van Herbert. His hobbies are decorating and renovating his home, hand crafts, knitting, reading books and watching movies. He likes to drive a scooter, swim and walk in the nature. Ken is a kind and happy person, who tries to make the best of his life and be helpful to others.
Kaarna is Ken´s chosen family - a dear friend who he shares his home with. She was living in a cult... I mean a commune, when she met Ken and decided to try the van life with him. Kaarna is about ten years younger than Ken and a lot more pessimistic. She has a bad mouth and she lacks patience. She is a graphic designer, who doesn't believe in herself at all. She has trouble with relationships and she´s an introvert. She loves visual arts, movies and chocolate. She´s afraid of frogs. Just like Ken she loves sunny summer days, bright colors and freedom.
Mari and Kaarna had an on-off relationship with a lot of passion, but not many common interests. Originally Mari dreamt of becoming a famous singer, but her talent wasn´t strong enough. It's good enough for the musicals though. Mari is an actress, but the little theater of Imatra wasn´t enough for her. She left Kaarna and moved to work in Tampere. She prefers quality stuff and white furniture and she has a cat called Bianca. She´s superficial, flirty, extremely beautiful and unpredictable.
Ken´s ex-husband Hector is still his loyal friend. Nowadays he works as a lumberjack. After the divorce from Ken he quit his job as a photographer and moved to Lapland, but later returned to Melukylä to take care of his old mother. He has a beagle called Sulo and a hamster called Touko, who is named after Tom of Finland. Hector likes to spend as much time as he can in his little log cabin in the woods. He´s athletic and enjoys doing many kinds of sports. Also he likes any kind of motor on wheels. He´s always helpful and generous.
Veli is Ken´s musical younger brother. Already as a child he was their mother's favorite, as he still is. He has had traumatic relationships with women and Ken always sees him as a lost little boy. First he got a child together with Taylor, but ended up as a single father. Then he met the true love of his life, Kultu, and they lived a happy family life until Kultu died. For Veli´s luck his daughter Ritva will always be there taking care of him.
Kultu was a talented artist and a wild spirit, but she settled for a steady family life with Veli, Ritva and her adopted teenager called Ulla. Sadly she was hit by a car and she died on Veli´s arms. Ulla ran away after that and we never heard of her since.
Ritva is Veli's only child and Ken´s only niece. When Taylor abandoned her, she stopped growing physically. But mentally she outgrew everybody and turned out to be a child genius. She went through school in no time at all and became a doctor. She specialized in body transplant surgery and is now a highly admired expert.
Taylor is Ritva´s mother and Mari´s big sister. Her real name is Tellervo, but you shouldn't even know it. Even if she has two children, she´s a lousy mother. When she left her first family, she went to Paris and had some adventures in the mud wrestling business before she returned to Finland heavily pregnant. She´s dramatic, selfish and sexually very active. She has always had a desire to be famous, but when she failed in that, she now tries to make his son famous. Together with her husband Geordie she runs a bar called Mocambo, which is getting well known of its swingers parties.
Geordie is Greek, but he moved to Finland when he thought he was the father of Taylor´s baby. Well, he wasn´t, but the blonde women of Finland has kept him here ever since. They have an open marriage with Taylor and Geordie entertains women in the back room of the bar. Any women, all of them. He´s got a magic touch and he´s legendary in giving orgasms. Geordie is here to serve the ladies.
For Muija Geordie only serves alcohol. She practically lives in Mocambo, and she's usually very, very drunk. She has a habit to bring her own bottle everywhere and pass out eventually.
Reiska is a handyman. He can build anything and he owns a car repair shop. He patiently picks up his girlfriend Muija from any bar and makes sure she gets safely to her own bed.
Filia is Geordie´s mother and Elvis Presley´s daughter. She came to Finland to visit her son and stayed because of the better social welfare system. Nobody knows if she´s a bit senile or just mean, but she has always hated Taylor and speaks impolitely to everybody. Nowadays she lives in the same house with Ken. She´s a hoarder and an ex chain smoker. It is rumored that her cigarette was the cause of the fire that burned down the house where she lived with Geordie´s family.
Brigitte was Taylor´s room mate and a work mate in Paris. They came back to Finland together after Taylor got pregnant and Brigitte got injured in mud wrestling and paralyzed. They were the bestest friends and shared both a home and a geordie until the horrible end. Brigitte was killed in a fire, because she couldn´t get out of the house on time with her wheelchair.
Jason is Taylor´s second child. Taylor tried to become famous by telling the media that he is Elvis Presley´s great grandson. The whole family starred a reality TV show until it all went down the toilet, when a DNA test showed that Jason has nothing in common with Geordie.
Papi is Ken´s father. He was a good father for his family and because of him Ken has many good childhood memories. Papi was the one who Ken used to call, before Google started to tell all the answers.
Ken's mother is never happy with Ken. She has always made it clear that Ken is a disappointment, but Veli is a little angel. She and Papi have divorced ages ago, and she has become a bitter old woman with a dementia.
Saimi is Hector's mother. She has always liked Ken and she still thinks herself as his mother-in-law. She´s a traditional South Carelian woman, and it´s important for her to have a table full of food, when somebody comes to visit. She´s not in a very good shape physically, and needs her son´s help a lot.
Isla is Kaarna´s sister, who lives in Tampere and studies in the university. She´s fashionable and outgoing and a vegan when it suits her. She´s 14 years younger than Kaarna and she got placed in a wonderful foster family after their parents died, so she eventually had a good life growing up.
Elisabet is Ken and Kaarna´s neigbour. She's great with official stuff of the housing co-operative and she lives for gardening.
Barbie is Ken´s ex girlfriend. She lives in Oulu. They keep in touch occasionally.
Miss Amadoria is a drag queen, who sometimes works in the local theater as a guest choreographer. He lives in the capital city. Ken had a crush on him.
But Ken had a lot more than just a crush on Blaine! After divorcing Hector, Ken moved to Fuerteventura and dated Blaine for a year. Sadly this handsome surfer found drugs more interesting than anything else and Ken had no choice but the leave him. We assume that Blaine is already dead.
Lotta wandered to Imatra without any clue of herself. She never recovered from her mystical memory loss, but she stayed in town, and founded a bakery and a cafeteria called Whole Lotta Cake. In the cafeteria she met Jussi, a farmer, who is now her husband and a right hand in business and in life.
Selma is a gardener, who smuggled her lover Olga from Russia. Olga got an asylum in Finland and they live happily together. Selma has some hippieness in her nature and Olga loves sports.
Reetta is a nurse who studied with Ritva and took care of Brigitte as a personal helper. Now she works at Ritva´s clinic.
Tupu is an art director and an owner of a big and successful advertising agency.
